NRC Combined Inspection Nos. 50-317/93-15; 50-318/93-15
An announced safety inspection of the radiation protection program at your facility was
conducted by Mr. J. Furia of this office on May 18-21, 1993. The inspection findings were
discussed with members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection on May 21,1993.
Areas examined during this inspection are important to health and safety and included the
radiation protection program. Areas inspected included your programs for transportation and
radwaste processing, radiological work control and housekeeping, ALARA, and assurance of
quality. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures
and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Strong performance in the area of radwaste and transportation was noted. ALARA
deficiencies, identified in previous inspections, have been addressed by your staff, including
the creation of an A.LARA management committee and the placement of an ALARA
technician into the Unit I refueling outage planning group.
