7 JUN 2 1910 Docket No.

50-289 Mr. T. Gary Broughton Vice President and Director, TMI-1 GPU Nuclear Corporation Three Mile Island Nuclear Station P.O. Box 480 Middletown, Pennsylvania 170574)191

Dear Mr. Broughton:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR REVIEW AND FOLLOWUP This letter refers to your May 6,1993, correspondence, in response to our April 6,1993 letter requesting your review and followup of certain activities involving the Auxiliary and Fuel Handling Building Ventilation system at the Three Mile Island Station, Unit 1. This issue was also discussed in NRC Inspection Report No. 50-289/93-03.

We have reviewed your response and feel it adequately addresses the issues of management responsiveness to employee concerns raised in our April 6 letter. We concur with your assessment of the impact of management unresponsiveness to operator concerns during the ventilation system event. We note that the corrective actions described in your response are appropriate and should result in the continued improvement of employee / management communications and feedback.

Sincerely, Orism! man;d Dy Wyne t.annin3 kW James T. Wiggins, Acting Director Division of Reactor Projects cc:
