An announced inspection of your reactor operation and safety surveillance programs was

conducted by Mr. Stephen Holmes of this office, on May 11-13,1993, of activities authorized
by NRC License No. R-70. Discussions of our findings were held by Mr. Holmes with
members of your staff at the conclusion of this inspection.

Areas reviewed during this inspection are important to public health and safety and are described
in the enclosed inspection report.
.
Within the scope of this review, we observed that your program enhancements in the areas of
procedures and control of experiments were notable. Also, you stated that the calibration'of the
gamma spectrometry system for the air sample analyses had not been finalized and that you were
procuring a new certified source with which to perform the calibration, We request that you
keep us informed of your progress in performing this calibration. No violations of regulatory
requirements were observed during this inspection, and no reply to this letter is required.
