I am writing in r e g a r c's to the proposed uranium enrichment I
facility to be located near Forest Grove and Center Springs, in Hcner, Louisiane.
I uish to express my environmental concern
< nd strong opposition to the construction of this facility in Louisiana - or anywhere, for that matter.
As e resident of :!yoning, I have first-hand knowledge about
'M uraniun industry both fron economic and environnental stand-pointe.
Already, there is : uorldwide overcapacity for producing i
enriched uraniun; ind it is a knoun fact that DDE's already existing enrichment plants are only operating at 50% capacity.
Aditionally, DDE is considering the utilization of advanced t e c h n o l o r;i e s to enrich uraniun which would not pose the proliferation threat thet the proposed Louisiana plant would i
hrue to consider.
l Contanination and pollution of Louisiana waterways from the discharge of the proposed facility arc a real concern.
Louisian: residents in the area have expressed strong opposition to this project.
It is difficult for them - and for me - to I
und:rstand the U.E.
policy of siting hazardous waste dumps and dangerous induetrial operations in or near economically and politically ai'advantnyd conmunities.
The proposed location for this uranium proj?ct reises the question of environmental i
raciso.
I olend that you look closely into the negative social and envirenmental impacts that the plant will have on the area.
There is e worldeide oversupply and snrinking deannd for enriched urinion.
