Dear Mr. Selin,

q lt has come to my attention that Louisiana Energy Services (LES) has applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for permission to build a uranium enrichment plant near the communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs in Homer, Louisiana.

Citizens Against Nuclear Trash, a local organization of citizens from the afrected area, is opposed to siting the LES plant in Forest Grove and Center Springs. The local residents are concerned about the storage of approximately 4000 tons of U-238 waste annually and the possible contamination of Lake Claiborne (many poorer residents rely on wells for drinking water) and airborne release of uranium hexaflouride.

Considering the strong opposition of the local residents to the plant, I urge the NRC to deny -

LES's application to build a uranium enrichment plant in Homer, Louisiana. I also urgeyou to.

investigate whether racism had any part in the siting decision, as Forest Gmve and Center Springs are both poor and predominantly black communities. Indeed, given the current oversupply of enriched uranium (Department of Energy plants are operating at 50% ofcapacity),

i examine closely whether a new enrichment plant should be built anywhere.
