It has come to my 6ttention, that Louisiana. Energy Services. (LES)' has submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) i for permission to build'aw uranium enrichment plant near two
. low-income, predominantly black communities in Louisiana.
I urge you to advise the NRC licensing board to deny LES' application to construct an uranium enrichment facility in Homer. Louisiana e
The, local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are ada.mantly opposed to have the LES plant located in their backyard. The negative social and environmental impacts that the plant will have on the area are obvicus. Closing and rerouting the only road serving these communities significantly decreases accessibility. Elderly residents from the nearby retirement community surrounding Lake,Claiborne, are concerned about how rapidly they can flee the area in the event of an accidental UF6 discharge. The polluted water from the plant will be discharged into the Lake Claiborne watershed, contaminating the drinking water of these communities.
Please take a close look at the issue of environmental' racism and the

role that it might have played in deciding to site the plant so near to the two srall black communities.
