Dear Mr. Selin,
I am writing this letter in regards to the construction
[
of the United States' first privately owned uranium errich-ment plant.
I urge you to advise the NRC licensing board to deny Louisiana Energy Services application for construction i
of this facility in Homer, Louisiana.
First and foremost, the local communities of Forest i
Grove and Center Springs are adamantly opposed to having the LES plant in their backyard.
Approximately 4,000 tons of radioactive waste (Uranium 238) vill be produced annually.
This by-product (U-238) remains hazardous for millions of years, and most likely, the vaste vill be stored at the plant.
The plant will not only have a negative impact environmentally, it will also have a negative impact socially.
Why was:the site of the plant located quite close to two small predominantly black communities?
I encourage you to take a close look at the issue of environmental racism.
Thank you for your time.
