Dear Mr. Selin:
I am writing to add my voice to those opposed to the application of i
Louisiana Energy Services application to build a uranium enrichment j
plant in Homer. There are a number of reasons for my opposition, including:
i
- 1. Danger of terrorism: the LES technology can be used for weapons. In
{
fact, I understand that American technology in this area found its way e
to Iraq, according to UN investigators. Are you aware of this?
l
- 2. Disproportionate number of toxic waste sites and other undesirable operations in areas populated by ethnic minorities. Probably the Clinton administration in general will want to position itself differently on this than did Bush.
i
- 3. Economic feasibility. Local communities are strongly opposed. LES 4
can lose a lot in PR for scant advantage in the crowded market.
l a
ij If it has already been decided that their application be turned down, I
you need not reply to this letter.
4.
t
- Yours,
-i
/f Terry Loughrey
