Dear Mr. Selin,
I am writing to express my grave concern over the application of Louisiana Energy Services to build -a uranium enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana.
The local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are j

vehemently opposed to the construction of this plant in their backyards.
It will produce over 4,000 tons of radioactive U-238 waste every year, and this waste of course will remain' hazardous for millions of years.
Polluted water from the plant will be discharged into the Lake Claiborne watershed -- many homes in the vicinity of the proposed plant rely on wells for_ their drinking water.
It-is no wonder local communities are opposed.
But these -local communities are of course poor and black, as are most of the -
communities chosen for toxic waste sites and hazardous chemical operations.
There is a worldwide overcapacity for producing enriched uranium. The DOE's enrichment plants are only operating at 50% of capacity. DOE's uranium costs less. Why permit another'of these dangerous plants to exist, especially when the local communities do not want it? ~
l urge you to advise the NRC licensing board to DENY the Louisiana Electric Service application.
