Uranium enrichment plan - Homer, Louisiana
Dear Mr. Selin:
I am urging you to advise the NRC licensing board to deny the Louisiana Energy Services' application to construct a uranium enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana.
The local communities are opposed to this construction for a variety of reasons. Among them, fear of well water contamination as plant water is discharged into the Lake Claiborne watershed. The retirement community surrounding Lake Claiborne is filled with elderly residents without transportation who would be unable to rapidly flee the area in the even of a uranium hexaflouride leak.
I am asking you to carefully examine the issue of environmental racism as yet another potentially toxic site is proposed in a poor, minority area.
Also, the NRC must consider the need for this facility. The doe is currently producing cheaper enriched uranium in plants that are operating at only 50%
capacity.
Again, please do all you can to deny LES' application.
