Dear Sir:
I am wrting to urge you to deny the application of Louisiana Energy Services to build a uranium enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana. The plant will discharge polluted water into the Lake Claiborne watershed. There is a retirement community in the area and 40 homes are within 5 miles of the plant.
The centrifuges which separate U-235 from U-238 can be used to manufacture highly enriched uranium which is used in nuclear weapons. Such centrifuges have been found in Iraq, thus pointing out the danger of proliferation.
There is no need for such a plant since there is a worldwide surplus and DOE's plants are operating at 50% capacity.
The communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are strongly opposed to the plant. Locating pollution sources in poor minority communities amounts to environmental racism.
Please don't issue the permit!
