Dear Mr. Selin:
This letter is being sent to urge you to please advise the NRC Licensing Board to deny LES(Louisiana Energy Services) application to construct a uranium enrichmet.t facility in Homer, Louisiana.
The reason that I wish to do this is that the local commut.ities of Forest Grove and Center Springs, are very much against having the LES plant located in their backyard.
A by-product of the enrichment process will be production of approximately 4,000 tons of radioactive uranium-238 annually.
U-238 will stay hazardous for millions of years. In all probability, this waste will be stored on their plant's 450-acre site.
Since the site that was chosen for this facility is a predominantly black community, the site of this nuclear facility / waste site is seen by many people as yet another example of environmental racism.
There is a pattern across the nation of siting hazardous waste dumps and dangerous industrial operations in economically and politically disadvantaged communities.
Please consider closely what I have stated in this letter.
