Dear Mr. Selin:

I am writing to you to regarding the proposed uranium enrichment plant in Homer, Iouisiana.

I urge you to advise the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensing board to deny Louisiana Energy Services (LES) application to construct this facility.

I have read that the local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are adamantly opposed to having the LES plant located in their backyard.

'Ihe plant will have prominent negative social and environmental impacts on the area.

I also read that a byproduct of the enrichment process will be the production of approximately 4,000 tons of radioactive uranium-238 waste annually and that this uranium remains hazardous for millions of years.

' Ibis is absurd!

khat about future generations of families? What about future generations of wildlife? hhat about the future of the local flora?

How can this facility (which produces hazardous waste and is obviously opposed) even be considered?

I encourage you to take a close look at the issue of environmental racism ard the role that it might have played in deciding to site the plant so near to the two small black communities.

It is unfortunate that despite all the evidence of negative impacts produced by nuclear power that it is still being considered as a viable source of pcrer.

I think that our tax dollars.would be much better spent on solar pcrer and other natural, unpolluting, untoxic, unharWous sources of power.
