Dear Mr. Selin:
I was most concerned to learn that Louisiana Energy Services (LES) has submitted an application to the NRC for permission to build a uranium enrichment plant near two low-income, predominately black communities in rural Louisiana.
The local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are adamantly opposed to having the LES plant in their area (as would any community that understands the negative environmental, social and health impact of this kina of 2naustry).
I urge you to use your considerable influence to advise the NRC livensing baard to deny LES' application for construction of a 0:anium enrichment plant in Homer, Louisiana.
Much has been written on the issue of environmental racism, and the truth is appalling.
We must begin, now, to reverse this particularly heinous form of racism.
Since nobody wants this environmental " time bomb" in their backyard, perhaps a clear message is being sent to government and industry that it is time to seriously re-think our energy policy and priorities.
