Dear Mr. Selin:
I ask you to strongly consider advising the Nuclear Regulatory l
Commission to refuse Lousiana Energy ~ Services' application for permission to construct a uranium enrichment facility. in Homer, LA.
Please bear in mind that the people indigenous to the areas of l
Forest Grove and Center Springs are vehemently opposed to having a i
nuclear. facility / waste site _in their community.
When' you. weigh the -
injurious. social, health-related and environmental consequences.-
namely the byproduct of approximately-4.000 tons of radioactive uranium-238 waste (U-238) annually! - that the plant will bring-about surely such a location for the plant warrants reexamining.

I think it's also -irrefutable that. building the plant in-such a.
predominantly black community that is both underprivileged and politically disadvantaged can be construed 'as yet another example of 4
environmental racism.
To corroborate this statement please refer-to the United Church of Christ's " Commission _ for -Racial Justice" (released in 1987).
In that report, you'll find statistics and studies-which indicate that an overwhelmingly disproportionate-number of toxic waste sites, incinerators and-hazardous chemical and industrial operations 'are-located-in poor, minority communities.
