Dear Mr. Selin:
I an not an opponent of the proper use of nuclear power, and in fact at one time had responsibility of selling parts to nuclear power plants.
However, I do have deep reservations about the uranium enrichment facility proposed for the Forest Grove / Center Springs, Louisiana area. I feel very strongly that the possibility of environmental racism needs to be considered in the rationale of locating the plant in this area. The local citizens are just as opposed to this plant, with its potential for water contamination and difficulties in case of the need for emergency evacuation, as other, more monied and articulate communities might be to have it located in their back yards. The appearance of siting plants like this in areas of lesser political empowerment needs to be avoided at all costs.
Especially in light of the questionable need for more enriched uranium, I strongly urge the NRC licensing board to deny the LES application for this facility in Homer, LA.
