JUDYTHE ERICKSON P.O. BOX 980964 HOUSTON, TEXAS 77098 April 20, 1993 Mr. Ivan Selin, Chairman United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission l

Washington, DC 20555 l

Dear Mr. Selin,

I am writing to you today in regards to the application submitted to the NRC by the Louisiana Energy Services (LES) to build a plant near the communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs.

I urge you to advise the NRC board to DENY LES's application to construct a uranium enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana.

The communities of Forest Grove and Center Spring are adamantly opposed to having this plant built in their community.

They are citizens of the United States no matter what their economic level or race.

You are a servant of each and every citizen in this country.

I hope you listen closely to their desires on this issue.

Please serve the people and not big business.

I ask you to ponder the possibility of environmental racism.

Are facilities such as these that the NRC allows to be constructed always done in poor, depressed areas where big business thinks it can just have their way and ignore the citizens in the area ?

The pollution created by this facility will be deadly to the i

people in these communities and to the environment.

I am a j

taxpayer.

As someone whose salary my taxes help pay, I ask i

you as the " top guy" in the NRC to have the agency enforce.

our environmental laws.

How can this plant propose discharging polluted water into Lake Claiborne ?

There are people who rely on this water for drinking ?

Even if people don't drink the water, how can plants like this be allowed to dump pollution ?

l Someday l

Mr. Selin, I hope you sleep well at night.

hopefully after a very long life, you will leave this world.

I hope that you will leave our country in a more beautiful state than when you first came to the NRC.

Do not let people threaten you or your principles.

Be strong in your duties to your country.

Think about the lands and waters that could be OFCG 9305260145 930420
