SVA FUEL FABRICATION FACILITY DISMANTLEMENT (TAC NO. L30531)
We have reviewed General Atomic's (GA) February 1993, SVA Decommissioning Project, Phase I (Pre-Dismantlement) Survey Report, and ORISE's May 4,1993, Preliminary Confirmatory Survey Results of the General Atomics SVA Facility, La Jolla, CA concerning the decommissioning of the SVA facility.
The i
decommissioning plan for this facility was approved by the Nuclear Regulatory i
Commission by License Amendment 16 dated November 13, 1990.
By this letter, we are authorizing GA to proceed with the dismantlement of the superstructure of the SVA facility and removal of the floor drain lines and adjacent concrete floor in accordance with the NRC-approved decommissioning pl an. Removal of the drain lines and concrete floor will require health physics coverage in the event that contamination levels are higher than anticipated. Final decommissioning of the facility will not be approved until after GA has submitted a soil sampling and remediation plan for NRC approval.
