Dear Mr. Chernoff:
We received the Department of Energy's letter dated April 13, 1993, that transmitted Project Interface Document (PID) No. 08-S-09 for the Gunnison site. This PID is designated as Class II, but based on our review, we conclude that two of the six categories of changes presented in the PID should be considered Class I.
The demolition change category (Specification revisions for the size of debris to be placed in the cell), and the change referred to as tailings placement, both relate to design requirements. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has reviewed these two categories of changes and concurs with the indicated revisions.
