Attention:

Mr. James E. Cross

Executive Vice President

SUBJECT:

NOTICE OF VIOLATION

NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-344/93-02

During the period of February 1 - 5, 1993, Mr. L. Cobler.tz of this office

conducted a routine inspection of activities authorized for your Trojan

Nuclear Plant. At the conclusion of the inspection, Mr. Coblentz discussed

our findings with members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the enclosed report.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of

procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and

observations of activities in progress.

Based on the results of this inspection, certain of your activities appear to

be in violation of NRC requirements, as specified in the enclosed Notice of

Violation (Notice).

An area of your Radwaste Storage. Building in which

radiation levels exceeded 100 tillirem per hour was not properly posted as a

high radiation area.

Our further review indicated, however, that this was an

isolated condition, and your corrective actions were prompt and thorough;.

therefore, a response to this violation is not required.

In addition, one licensee-identified violation, discussed in the enclosed

report, is not being cited because the criteria in Section V.G of the NRC

Enforcement Policy were met. No deviations were identified.

In accordance with 10 CFR Part 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy

of this letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document

Room.
