%,.... 4l APPROVAL RECORD Model No. Bettis Disposable Waste Certificate of Compliance No. 6142 Revision No. 5 By application dated December 18, 1992, the Department of Energy, Naval Reactors, requested an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 6142.

At the request of the applicant, the total quantity of radioactive material is limited to 5 times A.

In addition, only exempt quantities of fissile 2

material as defined in 10 CFR 571-.53 are allowed and no more than an 2 times an A7 quantity of plutonium may be included.

The fissile class specification and fissile (F) designation on the package identification number are removed.

A specification for the lid on the large cavity vault is added to state that an additional 3 inches of structural concrete shall be poured to surround the contents by a minimum thickness of 12 inches of structural concrete.

The certificate of corpliance is revised to allow the use of concrete vaults manufactured after August 31, 1986.

The dimensions in the package description have been clarified.

Staff has determined that these changes do not reduce the safety performance of this package.
