REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY DOCKET NO. 50 ;
1.
For'your requested increase in authorized' steady state power level you l
made several changes to your Technical Specifications to make them consistent with the requested power level. However, Table 3.2 remains inconsistent with your request. Please amend Table 3.2.
i o
2.-
Your new proposed Technical Specificatio..s concerning the.use of byproduct material sealed sources in the reactor pool do not refer to any particular isotope or curie quantity. Does your safety analysis for Technical-Specification 3.14(3) hold true for any isotope? If a loss of' pool water eccident occurred, at what source size would melting of the encapsulation be credible? Also, if water loss occurred from the pool, at what source size would source radiation shine significantly increase radiation levels-produced by core shine?
In addition, the proposed Technical Specifications require c basis.. Proposed Technical. Specification 3.14(3) has a surveil-lance interval of monthly without a 'aximum interval between measurements.
m For an -interval of monthly, the maximum interval should not exceed six 1
weeks.;
3.
Proposed Technical Specification 4.3.3 has a verification interval of monthly'with'the interval not to exceed 60 days. Normally the maximum interval for monthly surveillances'is six weeks.
If you want a maximum i
interval of 60 days, please justify with a safety analysis.
4.
In Technical Specification 6.10 reference is made to the Region V Office l
of Inspection and Enforcement. This office does not exist anymore. The correct contact for the region is the Regional Administrator for written communication ano the Region V Office for telephone communication. Please update your Technical Specifications to. reflect these changes.
