I approve the course of action recommended by the staff subject to the following condition:
1 In view of the requirement in the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Amendments Act that GTCC wastes from NRC licensees be disposed of in an NRC-licensed facility, we need a reliable system in place prior to DOE receipt of the waste to track and account for all wastes that DOE accepts for storage, pending the availability of disposal capacity.
Accordingly, prior to DOE
~t acceptance of any cuch waste, staff should submit for Commission approval a proposed approach for tracking such wastes ( n, an inventory-tracking mechanism), so as to ensure that all such waste will be disposed of at an NRC-licensed disposal facility.
