f Dear Dr. Bolon As the time approaches to begin fabrication of the new LEU fuel elements required to accomplish the conversion of your reactor core to LEU fuel, it is necessary to establish how many and what type (standard, partial, control, etc.) fuel elements are required. In general the fuel elements required for one complete core loading plus one spare element of each type will be provided. Please provide me with this information as soon as the analysis work makes it available. If you perceive of the ,

i. need for additional or "special" elements, also provide a justification for their need.

In order to arrange for shipping and reprocessing of the old HEU fuel elements,1 also need to know if you have any elements that contain non-aluminum components, as these will have to be removed before reprocess-ing. If you have any question concerning the information requested, please call me at 202-586-6833.

Sincerely, J
