fosal MR. BEVILL: Describe the licensing consequences of turning over the operation of the Uranium Enrichment enterprise to a different entity whether it be the Government corporation or a private company.
CHAIRMAN CARR:
If legislation is passed which turns over the operation of the uranium enrich-ment enterprise to a different entity, and the legislation includes provisions to require NRC licensing of all enrichment facilities, the entity would have to seek licenses for the existing facilities as well as any new facilities.
Since NRC is not involved with existing DOE operated enrichment facilities, the NRC does not know wh6t changes might have to be made to these facilities to comply with NRC regulations.
However, the Department of Energy has prepared a report on the costs, including NRC costs, of licensing the existing facilities, and this report along with our comments on it have been submitted to Congress.
It is noteo that the NRC has not budgeted any resources for licensing the DOE uranium enrichment facilities.
