PACKAGE DESCPIPTION 1.

Provide complete dimensions on all camponents of the packaging.

DRAWINGS.

1.

Provide a legible set of all drawings. Provide complete dimensions on each component on each' drawing.

Indicate the position of the purge plug on Drawing No. 0A23527.

STRUCTURAL 1.

Show that the liftino devices are in compliance with 10 CFR 671.45(a) which requires that the lifting devices be designed with a minimum safety L

factor of three against yielding.

Also show that the failure of these lifting devices would not impair the ability of the package to meet other requirements of 10 CFR Part 71, Subpart E.

Address whether the lifting devices will be rendered inoperable for tying down the package during transport.

If not, they should be designed with strength equivalent to that required for tie-down devices.

I 2.

Show that the tie-down devices are adequately designed to meet the 10g longitudinal, 5g transverse, and 29 vertical accelei stion requirements in 10 CFR 671.45(b)(1).

Provide legible photographs of the one-third scale model accident test results. _ Show that all parameters of the one-third.;cale. model meet -

l applicable scaling laws.

Show that the radiation measuraments were made before and after the test in order to determine that the shielding effectiveness was not reduced by the accident conditions.

QPERATING PROCEDURES 1.

In each step that the package external dose rate is to be checked, specify that this is to be done by measurement and change the radiation levels to give the applicable limits (at cask and package surface and at the specified distance from the cask or package surface) when the package is shipped by regular means and when the package is shipped as exclusive use (i.e. full load).

2.

In each step that values are identified for non-fixed external radiation contamination, correct the values (see 10 CFR 6 71.87) and use the correct conversion from Bq to Ci.

3.

Correct the values for the allowable internal contamination levels of an empty package.

4.

Add a step to the loading procedures to check that the stainless steel shielding ring and the tungsten shielding disk are in place.

5.

Add a step to the loading procedures to discuss the expected rate of water

ACCEPTANCE TESTS AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES 1.

Change the steps on shielding (8.1.5 and 8.2.5) to con'orm with Paragraph

  1. 11above under Operating Procedures.

2.

Add a step to the Turnaround Maintenance Procedures (8.3.2) and the Annual Maintenance Procedures (8.3.3) that a damaged tungsten shielding disk or shield rod for the drain line is to be replaced.
