Describe the expected NRC relationship with the newly established Office of Special Negotiator for Commercial Waste Management.
l CHAIRMAN CARR:
As provided under Section 403(c) of the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 1987, the Negotiator may solicit and consider the comments of the NRC or any other Federal agency on the suitability of any potential site for site characterization. This subsection also provides, however, that "nothing in this subsection shall be construed to require the... Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or any other Federal agency to make a finding that any.such site is suitable for site characterization."
