What is the status of your review of the Advanced High Temperature Gas Reactor Design.
CHAIRMAN CARR:
AdraftPreapplicationSafetyEvaluationReport(SER)fortheModularHigh Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor was issued in March 1989 (NUREG-1338). This report is being revised to address key licensing issues, such as containment requirements and emergency planning requirements. The Safety Evaluation Report will be presented to the Commission for review and approval by November, 1990.
A report fream DOE received in December 1989 that addressed the rationale for the differences in containment designs between the New Production Reactor (NPR)versionoftheMHTGRandthecivilianversion,andprovidedalternative containment designs for the civilian version, is currently being reviewed.
Further, NRC interactions with DOE on the MHTGR will be based on a licensing plan from DOE expected in the next several months.
