What is the status of your review of the advanced smaller light water reactor designs?
1 CHAIRMAN CARR.
Presently the NRC does not have an application for certification of a small i
advanced light water reactor design.
However, both Westinghouse and General Electric are in'the process of developing mid-sized, 600 MWe, passive light-water reactors for certification in the mid-1990's. Also, the Electric Power i
Research Institute is in the process of developing ~a requirements document for the passive plants which the staf f will be reviewing in the near future.
Although the NRC staff will participate in early dialogue with plant designers in accordance with the Commission's Policy Statement on Advanced Reactors, the actual passive plant design reviews will not begin until the requirements i
