- 1. Revise the operating procedures in Chapter 7 of the Application (Tech / Ops, Inc. application dated March 31,1986) to include procedures for preparing a package for shipment which does not have a lock mechanism installed. The current operating procedures address only packages which have a lock mechanism installed.
- 2. Provide drawings which can be referenced in the Certificate for the j
proposed pac.kage design which does not have a lock mechanism.
The drawings should be identified by a unicue drawing number and revision number. Note that these drawings may be upcated versions of the drawings referenced in i
Revision No. 8 of the certificate.
- 3. Many of the existing Model No. AI 500 SU packages observed during a recent NRC Incident Investigation were not fabricated in accordance with the dimensions specified in the Certificate drawings (see pages 84 and 86 of NUREG-1405, Inadvertent Shipment of a Radiographic Source from Korea to Amersham Corporation, Burlington, Massachusetts). The top side of these packages had been extended increasing the angle of the hinged cover lid.
Show that this modification in package design meets the package approval standards in 10 CFR Part 71, Subpart E.
