2,1990 Mr. Sniezek assumed the position of Deputy Executive for Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Regional Operations, and Research iffice of the Executive Director for Operations at the NRC. His t

position was that of Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor on(NRR).

In this position Mr. Sniezek was the driving force completely revitalized NRC Intern Program.

The two-year program on hiring technical staff with Bachelor of Science or Master of degrees in various engineering and scientific disciplines and them to gain a broad perspective on the role of NRC and the agency and regional offices in the regulatory process, these technical disciplines have been traditionally populated by males, Mr. Sniezek's. efforts have been specifically directed

2 Mr. Sniezek has also enhanced the promotion potential of women by broadening the qualification factors for senior-level nuclear reactor safety managers to include applicants with scientific backgrourids, thereby increasing the pool of qualified women as applicants for these jobs. He also set an example in ensuring high visibility assignments for women, which resulted in several promotions as a result of their outstanding performances on the job. He continually pressed for the rotation of competent women to ensure that they would have sufficient background for future entry in the Senior Executive Service (SES).

The results of his efforts will be an increased number of women in senior-level positions as well as long-term positive effects on NRC's reactor safety program.
