SUMMARY

Of liEETING HELD ON APRll 18, 1990 WITH LP&L TO DISCUSS THE SETTLEMENT MONITORING, BASUtAT CRACK MONITORING, AND CROUND WATER LEVEL MONITORING FROGRAMS On April 18, 1990, the staff inct with the licensee to discuss settlement of the nuclear structures, monitoring and condition of basemat cracks, and related ground water level monitoring. The list of attendees is enclosed as.

Subsequent to the meeting, the observations of the Structural and Geosciences Branch were documented and are enclosed as Enclosure 2.

In addition to these observations, it was sugges % that the licensee consider esteblishing a vi to develop data for long term quantification robar corrosion semple pr e of the basemat structure

,es is in anticipation that the baser.at condition will be a censidtration,y plant life extension. The rebar corrosion sample program is not a requirement but could be a relativtly easy effort to subject rebar san.ples to ground water near the basemet. The groundwater monitoring program was briefly discussed and because of location and no requirements for dewatering of the area, the ground water level teniains relatively constant and averages about 11 fu.t below grade at the site. The basemat exterids to below 35 feet below grade.

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON APRIL 18, 1990 WITH LP&L TO DISCVSS THE SETTLEMENT MONITORING, BASEMAT CRACK MONITORING, AND GROUND WATER LEVEL MONITORING PROGRAMS On April 18, 1990, the staff met with the licensee to discuss settlement of the nuclear structures, monitoring and condition cf basemat cracks, and related ground water level monitoring. The list of attendees is enclosed as.

Subsequent to the meeting, the observations of the Structural and Geosciences tranch were documented and are enclosed as Enclosure 2.

In addition to these observations, it was suggested that the licensee consider esthblishing a rebar corrosion sample program to develop data for long term quantification of the casemat structure. This is in anticipation that the basemat condition 1

will be a consideration for plant life extension. The rebar corrosion sample program is not a requirement but could be a relatively easy effort to subject rebar samples to ground water near the basemat. The groundwater monitoring program was briefly discussed and because of location and no requirements for dewatering of the area, the ground water level remains relatively constant i

and averages about 11 feet below grade at the site. The basemat extends to below 35 feet below grade.
