t PRt;SDEtLETATION UNIT 1 FUEL POOL NOBLE nAR IERIIIQR Dresden Station's Radiation-Protection Department is in-the process-of purchasing an Eberline Model SPING-3A.

This monitor is capable of monitoring KR-85 in the event of-fuel failure. The Eberline Model'SPING-3A is expected to arrive at.Dresden Station in the Fall of 1990. After initial calibration, verification and procedural development the monitor will be operational.by March 1, 1991.

The SPING will-provide local indication of abnormal'activityLinfthe ambient air with an audible alarm and rotating beacon. A.ModificationLis currently being prepared to establish communications between the SPING-and q

the Control-Room Control' Terminal. ' Completion date for.the modification is set for mid-1992.

QUALIf1 CATIONS OF DRESDEti STATION RADIATION PROTECTION MANAGER.

The Dresden Station Radiation Protection Manager' currently fulfills the qualifications as described iri ANSI /ANS-3.11-- 1981, Section 4.4.4.

.These qualifications are endorsedfby Regulatory Guide ~1.8 (Revision 2, April 1987) and will continue to be adhered to'during the Decommissioning of Dresden Unit 1.
