Dear Ms. McLaughlin:
This is in regard to your request-for approval'of _a route to be used for trans-port of' spent fuel as contained in your letter of February 9,1990. .The route,--as set-forth in the enclosure, from Newport News -Virginia to the Department of-Energy Savannah River Plant, Aiken, South Carolina, and-as requested in your letter,. is judged to meet the regulatory requirements'in accordance with 10'CFR 73.37 for shipment of spent-fuel and is approved-through December 31,'1990.- Also the ports of_ Port Elizabeth, New Jersey;;.. Baltimore,. Maryland; Portsmouth, Virginia' and Norfolk, Virginia ~ through which-the shipment may transit, are judged to meet the requirements'of.10 CFR 73.37; and are approved;.In the event your carrier is: required to deviate from the-apptbved route, please call the contact listed on-page two of this letter ar soon as~possible providing the details. Arrangements with law enforcement agencies along the routeras required by. 10 CFR 73.37(a)(2) have been completed by the NRC' staff. ; Data relating to these arrangements and a copy of the approved route are enclosed. This information-is to be incorporated'into your shipment plans and.provided to. your carrier along with instructions regarding its use.
