'Ned.Larson Elizabeth Damler LGary Konwinski A. meeting was held at the DOE office in_ Albuquerque, New Mexico, on April 3, 1990. The purpose of the meeting was'to involve _Russ Edge in the ground-water compliance issues discussed in previous me_etings. Mr. Edge was - however, unable to attend. A meeting will be rescheduled toiinvolve'Mr. Edge in the.

ij various issues, as well as solicit his thoughts on ground-water compliance.

There were, however, several. issues' which were discussed that have: impacts 'on~

the design of the Bodo Canyon disposal cell.- DOE was made aware'of the Claymax

- l Lissues with which the NRC has concern.' Both of these issues, manufacturing QA/QC and installation QA/QC, have been researched by DOE.. They feel confident -

that they have collected sufficient information that these items of concern j

-will not longer be issues.

i A new issue surfaced during the meeting which concerned a point of< compliance-well' established in the paleo channel undcrlying the alluvium.

Apparently, an energy dissipation structure at the end of a diversion channel will pond water upgradient of -a point-of compliance well.

This could potentially cause water-level changes or modifications in water quality which could cause one to conclude that the cell is not performing as designed.

Due to this',' it was a

recommended that the TAC review their design to determine if alternate well siting or a modification to the energy dissipation structure would allow both' remedial action components.to fulfill their~ purposes.
