SUBJECT:
SECY-90-117 - SECY-89-263 - ROTATION OF MEMBERSHIP, ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES (ACMUI)
This is to advise you that the Commission (with all Commissioners agreeing) has disapproved the staff's recommendation that the composition of the ACMUI be maintained and not be increased further.
The Commission has agreed that:

The staff should expand representation on the ACMUI to ensure that the Committee provides staff with a balanced view on the policy as well as the technical issues associated with the medical uses of byproduct material.
In reviewing nominations, the staff should ensure-that nominees are technically qualified.
Staff should specifically solicit nominations of qualified individuals who can provide the perspectives identified as important in the October 1989 SRM.
2.
The Commission also believes that the ACMUI should meet as a group more frequently than in the past (e.g. at least semi-annually), especially during the next couple of years as the Commission develops rulemakings on medical quality assurance and other topics related to the medical uses of byproduct material.
Staff should ensure that the ACMUI meets as a group before the end of June 1990, reviews nominations of new members for the Committee, and develops a program plan and schedule for Committee activities on specific technical and policy issues.
