The spill occurred at approximately 1200 hours0.0139 days <br />0.333 hours <br />0.00198 weeks <br />4.566e-4 months <br /> on D er 27,i1989. The l

cause of the spill was a hydraulic overflow of an oil. separation unit' which i

drains into, the. station's cooling water discharge canal..The spill was.

l discovered by station personne1' responding to the high level alarm on the oil

~1 separation unit and-confirmed 'by visual observation of an oil sheen in the Canal.-

The permanently. deployed boom in the discharged canal contained most of -the j

released oil.

No estimate f ' the voluiae of oil is available. However, a j

2 sheen approximately.300 ft was contained by the bocan while a sheen j

approximately 10 ft' escaped the boczn.

p Immediately following the discovery.and confirmation of the spill, station personnel began cleanup of the contained oil using absorbent material.
