Dear Dr. Bixby:
I plan.to visit the West Valley Demonstration Project site from January 23-25, 1990, accompanied by Joseph Price of Science Applications International Corporation.. The purpose of the visit will be to discuss the off gas treatment experience gained in your last cold vitrification run, and to review the' status of supernatant treatment.
In the latter area, we are particularly interested in your cumulative decontamination factor performance to date, your plans for dealing with the defective valve-on ion-exchange column D, and your contractor's findings concerning the causes of the valve failure.
Eli Maestas of your staff and I have been discussing the logistics of the visit by telephone.
Dr. Price and I will arrive at approximately 1:00 p.m.
on January 23, and will plan to leave at 12:00 p.m. on January 25.
We will be available to discuss any other issues of interest to you or your staff.
