STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON STATUS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SEVERE ACCIDENT MASTER INTEGRATION PLAN AND STATUS OF LICENSEE PROGRESS ON IPE, 10:00 A.M.,

g THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1989, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)

The Commission was briefed by the staff on the status of NRC's implementation of the severe accident master integration plan and the status of licensees' progress on performing individual plant examinations (IPE).

The commission requested the staff to:

1.

Provide the Commission a copy of NUMARC's draft guidance to utilities on accident management and staff's comments on the draft.

Submit an information paper which identifies those licensees requesting delays in submitting their IPEs, their justification for these requests, and staff's evaluation of the justification.

Submit an information paper describing the candidate accident management strategies, prior to issuing them to industry for information.

Provide a status report on the Accident Management Program and proposed guidance to be provided to the industry.

.may want to use'information from licensees' IPE submittals and evaluate the options for capture and retrieval of plant specific data.

The Commission encouraged licensees to perform a Level-III PRA
