l RESTORATION OF GROUNDWATER QUALITY FOLLOWING IN SITU URANIUM SOLUTION MINING BY CHEMICAL ADDITION METH005. NRC CASE NO.1005 I have been informed that the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Twin Cities, Minnesota

personnel, who have reviewed the subject disclosure.. are preparing a series of i
requests for proposals (RFPs) involving studies of groundwater quality restora-i tion tech.. ques and costs applying to uranium solution extraction activities.
These RFPs are to be published during fiscal year 1980 and will involve modeling and field studies that would include the subject disclosure by private contractors.

In addition, a former Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) employee who reviewed the disclosure has joined a mining company that is actively involved in in situ uranium solution extraction operations. Preliminary discussions concerning an HRC license application with the company (Teton Exploration and i
Drilling Company) indicated that they are considering effecting groundwater quality restoration of a leached ore zone aquifer by the subject technique for l
their proposed operation in Wyoming.
In view of these developments, I would appreciate your opinion on the patentability,
status of NRC Case 1005.
