CONNECTICUT LIGHT & POWER COMPANY (MILLSTONE POINT)
DOCKET No. 50-245 The attached report by our inspector of a visit to the Combustion Engineering plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 24-26, 1967, is forwarded for information. The visit was made to review the status of the reactor pressure vessels for the subject facilities. The inspector was accompanied by Mr. Richard Lofy of Parameter, Inc.,
whose report of the visit is also attached.
Mr. Lofy suggests three areas, on page 17 of his report, which he feels require " technical resolution." We plan to follow up on these items during our next visit to Combustion Engineering and we believe they can be resolved satisfactorily.-
We note that Combustion Engineering does not have a requirement to conduct tensile, chemical and impact tests on production welds. The proposed AEC Supplemen,tal Requirements for Pressure Vessels includes permission for such veld tests. We feel that this situation emphasizes the need for early issuance of the AEC requirements.
