SUBJECT:

SUP94ARY OF FEBRUARY ll, 1982 CRBR REVIEW MEETING A meeting was held on February 11, 1982 in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss the fire protection systems for the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant.

The applicants described the fire protection program and discussed the ability to cope with conventional fires and liquid metal fires. The applicants program for conventional fires is consistent with standard light water reactor technology. Their program for dealing with liquid sodium fires relies on leak detection systems, catch pans, fire suppression decks, inerted atmosphere, cell liners, and sodium carbonate extinguishers.

The leak detection systems utilize photoelectric and ionization chamber smoke detectors and optical detectors. The detectors are located throughout the reactor containment building, the reactor service building and the steam generator building. The details of the leak detection systems are documented in sections 7.5 and 9.13 of the PSAR. The consequences of a liquid sodium spray fire are documented in section 15.6 of the PSAR. The results show that the peak gas pressure and temperature occur within two minutes of spray initiation. The gas serosols have been analyzed assuming all radioactive spray releases are contained in the aerosol.

The applicants show that these events are within 10CFR 100 guidelines.

The meeting attendee listing is attached to this summary.
