Dear 14r. Tallnan:

Subject:

Senior 11anagement Review of nstruction Progress On Septeuber 15-17, 1981, the NRC staff met with Public Service Company of New Hampshire to review the status of construction of Seabrook Unit 1 and the schedules for construction completion. The ueeting included a tour of all the Unit 1 structures and associated on-site laydown areas. There were also discussions with your representatives that focused on scheculing and providing support for the renaining construction work. Based on that meeting, the NRC staff concluded the reraaining work on Unit I would not appear to be completed until December,1984, assuming typical industry-wide construction performance. This conclusion was based on observations during the site tour, data provided by the utility representatives, and extensive observations of construction progress at sinilar projects throughout the incustry. In contrast, your projected construction completion date is hovember,1983.

In his closing re.aarks on September 17, 1981, Mr. Louis L. Wheeler, the NRC Seabrook Project Manager, stated that nectings may be scheduled in the future to afford your manageaent personnel an opportunity to provide. senior NRC officals with an understanding of the basis for your Hovember,1983 projection. A proposed agenda for such a meeting that would be held on March 24, 1962 in bethesda is enclosed. You are encouraged to notify the Project flanager if adjustments to this agenda are appropriate to more accurately reflect the substance of your participation.

Sincerely, bP Rouert L. Tedesco, '.ssistant Director 8203240505 820225 PDR ADOCK 05000443 (s
