SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE DOCKET NO.

50 244 UNIT Ginna Station, Unit #1 DATE 8/8/80 d-N ~ct

COMPLETED BY Andrew E. McNamah TELEPHONE 1-(315)-524-4446 Ext. 205, 293 MONTH July, 1980 The reactor power level was maintained at 100% for the majority of the report month; with the following exceptions:

On 7/11, the reactor power level was reduced to 70% due to low boron concentration in the boric acid storage tanks. The power level was restored to 100% by 2400, same date.

On 7/14, the reactor power level was reduced to u 93% @ 0725, due to low boron concentration in the boric acid storage tank. The power level was restored to 100% by 1041. At 1042 another power level decrease was initiated, to the 70%

level, due to high boron concentration in the boric acid storage tanks. The power level was restored to 100% by 1950, af ter further tests of the boron concentration showed that a contaminated reagant was being used in the Chemistry Laboratory to determine the boron concentration in the boric acid storage tanks.

(These power level fluctuations were reported via LER 80-006).
