By letter from J. E. Gilleland to T. A. Ippolito dated July 11, 1978, we provided the feedwater/ control rod drive return line nozzle inspection program planned for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 3 during the fall 1978 refueling outage. In that report we stated that part of the planned action was to perform an external ultrasonic examination of the six feedwater nozzle safe ends, bores, and inside blend radii. We have recently found from a search of our records that all parts of the planned inspection were successfully completed with the single exception of the 1
feedwater nozzle safe ends. All six of the feedwater nozzle safe ends of unit 3 were examined during the winter 1981 outage. No unacceptable indications were found.
