Dear M.r. Wauls:
l I appreciate your invitation to meet' with the Chambers of Commerce in the Metropolitan Edison System in May.
Unfortun-ately, however, my schedule is such that I am unable to accept your invitation.
In addition, the situation at Three Mile Island involves
.both the cleanup of Unit 2 and the request of GPU Nuclear to I
restart Unit 1.
As I told the press in my meeting with them at Middletown on February 23.,'I am disappointed at the pace of the cleanup efforts at Unit 2; I am doing everything I
. can to call attention to the'need for accelerating these efforts.
Following my press conference at Middletown, I l
talked for a few minutes with some mothers from the Middle-l town area who expressed their concerns about the pace of the cleanup.
The issue of TMI Unit 1 restart is a matter which is pending before the Commission, and it appears that this will be the case for some time.
Therefore, as I told the press in Middletown, I cannot discuss TMI-1 restart issues.
For this reason, as well as scheduling limitations, I regret that I will be unable to. meet with the Chambers of Commerce at the session you propose in May.
Sincerely, Nunzio P
adino
