.s Attachment to AECM-82/87 Page 1 of 1 INTERIM REPORT NO. 1 FOR PRD-82/05 I.
Description of the Deficiency Nuts and jam nuts will not thread onto the support rods for the CRD housing lower support.
All nuts and rods are affected although several nuts (approximately 20) will thread on with some difficulty.
(Their major thread diameter appeared to be slightly larger). With the.use of a tap and die the problem was corrected at several locations but it appeared that an excessive amount of metal was being removed.
The deficiency is known to affect Unit 1.
Investigations are being undertaken to determine applicability to Unit 2 and to analyze safety implications.
II.
Approach to Resolution of the Problem MP&L is working with our NSSS' vendor to determine cause of the deficiency, corrective actions, and actions to prevent recurrence.
It is known that all of the nuts and support rods are affected.
III.
Status of Proposed Resolution Safety implications, cause of the deficiency, corrective actions, and actions to preclude recurrence have not been determined.
This evalua-tion will be completed by our NSSS vendor.
IV.
Reason Why a Final Report Will be Delayed We are awaiting an evaluation of the deficiency by our NSSS vendor.
V.
Date When Final Report Will be Submitted We expect to submit a Final Report by April 16, 1982.
