Dear Dave:
The licensee for Fort Calhoun Station, Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) has indicated that they have decided not to pursue qualification of their 42-inch purge isolation valves and will limit the use of these valves to the refueling and cold shutdown modes.
OPPD plans to evaluate the insta14 tion of an 8-inch (or smaller) fully qualified mini-purge system which can operate during all modes of operation, and indicated that appropriate Technical Specification changes / additions waald be sab.nitted when the mini-purge system is installed.
OPPD committed to propose a Technical Specification change by 1 November 1981, which includes the requirement for leakage integrity tests of the 42-inch purge isolation valves at least once every six months.
'1he attached TER supercedes the TER telecopied to you on February 24, 1982 and reflects your comments made during our telephone conversation of March 3, 1982.
Sincer ly, tvt. -
