SUM 4ARY OF FEBRUARY 24, 1982 CRBR REVIEW MEETIllG A meeting was held on February 24, 1982 in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss the Loose Parts Monitoring Program for the Clinch River Breeder Reactor.
The applicants described CRBR design features which preclude or minimize the consequences of loose parts in the CRBR primary loops. The features include debris barriers in the reactor vessel inlet plenum along with a large plenum volume and low plenum coolant velocities. The applicants also described an ongoing experimental program which is evaluating acoustic microphones, accelerometers, and the use of coolant pipes as waveguides in order to detect loose parts in the reactor primary loop.
The llRC staff requested a future meeting to discuss loose parts monitoring l
in other safety related systems such as the intermediate heat transfer system; the direct heat removal system; and, the steam generator heat removal system.
In addition, the liRC staff requested a discussion of the experimental program results and future activities. The meeting attendee listing is attached to this sumary.
