' Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission .

Dear Mr. Chairman:

A constituent of mine, Mary Sinclair, who.is an intervenor in the Midland proceedings, offered a motion for an independent audit of the Midland plant, similar to the audit ordered for the Diablo Canyon plant. *' hat motion was made and denied on December 3,1981. A copy of the motion is enclosed.

I would appreciate it if the Nuclear Regulatory Commission could provide me with a description of the Diablo Canyon audit and the process used for designing and ordering such an audit. It would also be helpful if you could provide an estimate of the costs in terms of time and money to all parties involved and a description of the potential or expected benefits of an audit such as the type of information that might not be available without such an audit.

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

Best ishes, j
